District 9

A couple of days ago and here I am with a friend watching what looks like a documentary. It's fleshy, hot and sticky of south african heat, mismatched clothes, and quirky shantiness. The sweat and grotesque grin of an absolutely white man, an office although clean but dirty looking – the white man is talking to the viewers with an upbeat yet unsettling afrikaan accent. Images from a ghetto back up his words. Other white people, maybe his work mates, are seen interviewed talking about the man we are watching. They are saying that something has happend to him. In the following scene we see him walking around in a slum area with heavely armed police. We know something will happen to him. But what?

District 9 is by far one of the best sci fi movies I have seen. Please, go and see it – it will not insult your intelligence.

As a sidenote, this will probably be a very good sci fi movie year. Movies like "Moon" and "Avatar" are planned to show up later.
