Night and A Teddy Bear Called Nothing
At an angle that equals my own, while I'm disembodied overhead
My blanket, the battlefield where my arms and feet fight for space
On the floor my pillow defeated by spiritual thousand volt seizures.
Teddy is the priest exorcising me
Teddy likes to be called Nothing
He is soft and warm with cold peering eyes.
Leftovers he stole from all the restaurants we visited.
“Did you keep the score, uh?”
Teddy slowly opens his mouth unable to fully lift his head
“Boy, keep pestering me while I sleep and I’ll rip your head off!”
My hand waves mockingly at him from above.
“You’re too slow and fat, besides everyone hates you for being Nothing.”
His growls fill my head as the room is lit up.
“Look at the crucifix boy and repent!”
A prism of colours reflect in Teddy’s eyes seeking their target.
Hard into the bed I crash, deep within the thick blankets
I am suffocating, waving my arms and legs to get rid of the heat.
One, two, even five toothpicks are buried into my body
“Feel that? Now you’re not going anywhere”
Pinned down, forced to sleep within the warmth I so despise.
My hand reaches out struggling in the darkness
Finally, Click! I find the button.
Air, cold and soothing hits my aching body and mind.
Far from my bed and the present, Teddy is swept away.
“Goodbye childhood, goodbye Teddy, goodbye Nothing.”

Imagine the only being who knows what you secretly do in your dreams/altered state is your teddy bear. While your body enters a state of reduced body movement and restoration process he is there to take up space and add heat the bastard. Yes, he was part of your childhood and is long gone by now (at least for me). The toy you're parents gave you to find comfort in while you tried to sleep. But what if the teddy phenomenon still is present in your subconsciousness today, taking up space, adding heat and somehow lingering in your memories as a malplacé son-of-a bitch that hinders the restorative effects of sleep? It's just a thought.
